December 1973

Well Kathy, the year 1973 has come to a close by now.  I can really say it’s been one of my most memorable years.  I guess this is because one year ago today I met one of the most influential people in my life.  And that person is you.  I’ve grown very much the past year through the experiences we’ve had.  It’s been such an enjoyable year.  I owe you a lot of thanks for helping it be that way for me.  I hope Kathy, that you can always look back at the things we’ve done and smile about them.  If you do that I think everything has all been worth it.

This next year is really going to be different.  I guess I’ll get to spend half of it with you and the other without.  Kathy my going on a mission means very much to me.  My desire to serve has grown through you.  I hope that you will be desirous to spend my mission with me through letter and tape.  It would mean very much to me to have you do this.  I’m pretty sure I would understand if you would rather not, I know you will be pretty busy and might not have a lot of time to keep in touch.  There is a lot I want to talk to you about in the next few months.  Please don’t think what I have to say is kind of dumb.

I know there are times Kathy when I’m a little hard to understand, but I appreciate your patience and consideration with me.

You’re a one of a kind girl Kathy.  My love, appreciation, and respect for you has grown very much over the past year.  You’re someone I’ve been able to walk and to talk with, to laugh with, to make jokes with, to sing with, to have (colds) with, to go to church with, to go to dances with, to be a real great friend with and most of all to pray with.  I’ve done things with you I’ve never done with anyone before.  Kathy, I sincerely hope that this is not the last and only year we will have together.  The experiences we’ve had are too cherished to throw away just on one year, why not build them up in other years.

            I just want to say thanks for you being the wonderful young lady that you are.  I don’t know what the future will bring for us Kathy, but I know what ever it is, Our Father in Heaven will be behind both of us showing the right way.  Remember the things we’ve done and always stay close to the Lord Kathy.  You’re a wonderful example of a woman. Always uphold your fine qualities.  Have a great 1974.
